Firstly I have to send out a big “Thank you”, swiftly followed by an “I can’t believe it has taken me so long to discover these things”, and slightly later by “oh, is that the time? I’ve been making pretty pictures for how long?”.
So thank you to Mel, Blake and all the others who have brought the following new creative outlets to my attention:
According to wikipedia it is “a vision board-styled social photo sharing website and app where users can create and manage theme-based image collections. The mission statement of Pinterest is to connect everyone in the world through shared tastes and the “things” they find interesting.”
For me it is a free creative outlet, easily accessible, no special tools required.
You find images on the internet and ‘pin’ them to your board in pinterest.
You can also ‘repin’ images from other Pinterest users.
Wikipedia does not even have an entry for this one.
Polyvore has a lot of similarities to Pinterest. Polyvore allows you to create your own ‘sets’ or collages of a number of images that can be selected within the site (similar to pin boards). You can also add images to the tool in a similar way to Pinterest (Clip to Polyvore). However Polyvore is very focused on clothes and fashion.
Pinterest relies on you finding your own pictures (of course, you can reuse the pictures you create in polyvore (nice one Mel).
Here is my first effort:
So I am going to try to keep blogging, and pinning and clipping to polyvore.
I suspect ETSY may be involved somewhere along the line.
